Waco Fall Sporting Events
It is finally Fall in Texas! You know what that means, its Football season! With Texas’ oversized love of Football, it is easy to forget the many other sporting events that are happening here in Waco.
Starting in October, as the air gets cooler, many marathons take place in Downtown Waco and around Cameron Park. There is the Chupacabra Trail Run on October 12th, which takes place through the trails of the rolling hills in Cameron Park. The event starts and finishes at the Redwood Shelter. The run follows the Powerline, Slinky, Mix Master, and Vortex park trails, leading the runners to discover how those trails got their names. The Society of Lazy and Carefree Runners (SLACR) is having the 2nd annual Brazos River 0.5K on October 13th. The run will be at Brazos Park East to experience the picturesque beauty of the Brazos. Then the 2019 Bicycle World Texas IRONMAN 70.3 Waco is just outside of Indian Springs Park starting on October 25th! This event shows off the beauty of Waco with the course crossing over the Brazos River, the historic bridges, beautiful rural roads, Lake Waco, the Waco wetlands, and through Cameron Park.
Along with marathons, you can also enjoy the Autumn air by playing a round of golf with friends. Did you know that the longest-running golf tournament in Central Texas is held here in Waco? The 33rd annual McLennan Community College Foundation’s Golf Classic is on October 4th at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course. This event will be in support of McLennan country student-athletes with scholarships. This year the 5th annual Greg May Caritas Golf Classic will be on October 18th at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course. This event draws quite the local crowd and the proceeds will go to benefit the urgent support services offered by Caritas. Then there is the 10th annual Education 4 Everyone Golf Tournament on October 21st at the Ridgewood Country Club is the biggest fundraiser for the Brazos Education Foundation. The proceeds go to benefit local students with scholarships, mentoring, and outreach.
Not to mention all the Rodeo fun at the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo from October 3rd to the 13th. They have sporting events for all ages, from mutton busting and the calf scramble to events like professional bull riding, high-speed team events, and barrel racing. There are also special sporting events like the chance to run with the bulls on October 6th. The Heart O’ Texas Fair and Rodeo Running with the Bulls Fun Run and 5K race will begin and end at the fair Grounds. All proceeds benefit the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo Scholarship Fund. This event is a way to live out your rodeo clown dream and get some cardio!
